Washington.- The President of the United States, Donald Trump reiterated this Monday that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon, just on the day the 60-day deadline agreed upon in the memorandum of understanding signed between Tehran and Washington on June 17, which aimed to end the war in the Middle East, expires.
“The number one goal is, and always will be, that Iran cannot have, in any way or under any circumstances, a nuclear weapon”, the president wrote in a message on his Truth Social network.

The deadline established in the memorandum, which declared the “immediate and permanent cessation of military operations on all fronts” as part of a process to negotiate an end to the war, ends this Monday without peace having been achieved and with the United States and Iran entrenched in their positions.
The expiration is above all symbolic given that in these 60 days military clashes have occurred again and the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked, which keeps the price of oil high.

Precisely, Trump stated last Friday that he planned to declare Hormuz a “United States territory” after “defeating Iran”, raising the tone against Tehran.
“After we finish defeating Iran, which is being defeated very badly, very soon I will declare the Strait of Hormuz United States territory, in essence. We have a blockade. No ship passes unless we want it to pass,” declared Trump at a political rally in Long Island (New York).
For his part, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced last week that the United States will soon adopt unprecedented economic measures against Iran.

“Stay tuned for new announcements next week because we are going to implement measures like never seen before in the history of a country’s economic isolation,” said Bessent, adding that those decisions would be part of a “one-two punch” that would include maintaining the blockade of Iranian ports.
