Flooded tunnels located hundreds of meters beneath Nepal’s mountains have become a major focus of rescue efforts following the devastating landslide on August 26, 2026.
More than 900 people have been reported missing in areas connected to hydroelectric projects built along Himalayan rivers. Along the Trishuli River, rescue teams are using excavators to remove mud and sediment blocking one of the tunnels.
Authorities have also injected air into the tunnel and plan to drill an access point to enter and search for possible survivors. Videos released by the Nepalese Army show rescue teams working to reach people who may be trapped inside one of the hydroelectric tunnels.
