COD guarantees the presence of Dominican baseball in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games
SANTO DOMINGO, RD.– The president of the Dominican Olympic Committee, Garibaldy Bautista Lorenzo, assured that the Dominican Republic will have representation in the baseball tournament of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, after the classification obtained by the national team.
Bautista Lorenzo highlighted that the Olympic body will work together with the Dominican Baseball Federation to form a highly competitive team, with a level similar to that shown in the recent World Baseball Classic.
“The COD is responsible for managing the participation of the Dominican delegation in the Olympic Games, and we welcome the baseball team as the first to qualify for Los Angeles 2028,” said the leader.
The Quisqueyan team earned its Olympic ticket thanks to its outstanding performance in the World Baseball Classic, thus solidifying its presence in the world’s most important multi-sport event.
Likewise, Bautista Lorenzo indicated that there is expectation regarding the conversations between the office of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball and the players’ union, with a view to extending the All-Star break in 2028, which would allow the participation of MLB players in the Olympic Games.
If said agreement materializes, the Dominican selection could count on first-rate figures from professional baseball, further raising its aspirations in the Olympic tournament.
The last participation of baseball in the Olympic Games was at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, where the Dominican Republic won the bronze medal after defeating South Korea.
