SANTO DOMINGO. – An unstoppable hit to center field by Erik González in the ninth inning sealed the 5-4 victory for the Leones del Escogido this Wednesday, leaving the Tigres del Licey on the field at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium.
The Eternal Rivals arrived tied at the last episode, when Adonis Medina came in to pitch for the blues. Gio Urshela opened with a single to right field and advanced to second on a throwing error during a pickoff attempt by the pitcher. Carlos Jiménez came in to run as a pinch runner and Jasson Domínguez received an intentional walk, setting the stage for González, whose hit decided the game.
The first hit for the scarlet team came in the sixth chapter, after having been down on the scoreboard throughout the game until they managed to tie in the eighth inning.
Jimmy Cordero (1-0) earned the win after completing a two-strikeout inning, while Medina (1-1) took the loss, allowing the winning run.
With the result, the Escogido improves its record to 10-12, while the Tigres fall to 9-12.
The Races
The Blues attacked early with a double by Cristhian Adames in the first inning against Kenny Hernández, putting the score at 2-0 with two runners on base.
A solo home run by Mel Rojas Jr. to right field in the sixth increased the lead to 3-0 for Licey, who added another run in the eighth.
The Lions scored in the seventh with walks to Jorge Mateo and Yamaico Navarro. A single by Sócrates Brito drove in the first run, and a hit by Urshela to center field brought in the second, closing the score to 3-2 for the home team.
In the eighth, the long-haired players tied the game against Ryan Watson. González negotiated a walk, Mateo hit a single to center field, and Navarro produced the tie with a hit to right field.
