Latin Events and LIDOM announce the “Copa del Cibao” at Citi Field in New York
Santo Domingo. – The company Latin Events, in partnership with the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), announced this Thursday the celebration of the Copa del Cibao, an event that will take place on November 7, 8 and 9 at Citi Field in New York, with a format that emulates what was previously known as the Serie de los Titanes.
This time, the matchup will feature the Águilas Cibaeñas and the Gigantes del Cibao, with the particularity that the games will be official and valid for the regular season schedule of the autumn-winter 2024-2025 tournament, which begins next October 16th.
The president of Latin Events, Félix Cabrera, assured that everything is ready to offer the Dominican community residing in the Big Apple a sports and musical spectacle “of the highest level.”
For his part, Vitelio Mejía, president of LIDOM, highlighted that the Copa del Cibao is part of the league’s internationalization plan, taking Dominican winter baseball to highly relevant scenarios in the United States.
Cooperstown Hall of Famer David Ortiz also backed the initiative and guaranteed that all logistical aspects – lodging, tickets, and insurance for the players – are fully covered. Ortiz took the opportunity to urge fans to purchase their tickets in advance, as demand is high and they are selling out quickly.
The representatives of the Eagles and the Giants assured that they will travel to New York with the commitment to “leave it all on the field” and offer the fans a spectacle worthy of the Cibaeña passion.
The press conference took place in the James Rodríguez Hall of the Ministry of Sports, where Félix Cabrera also offered a scoop: this year the event will feature the participation of 17 artists on stage, combining sports and music in a unique experience. The 2024 edition of the Copa del Cibao will be dedicated to the memory of former pitcher Octavio Dotel and merengue singer Rubby Pérez, both of whom recently passed away in the JetSet tragedy.
