Santo Domingo.- The controversy generated by the cancellation of the three-game series between the Gigantes del Cibao and the Águilas Cibaeñas in New York took a legal turn this month, after the company Latin Events, LLC filed a lawsuit to claim the return of US$775,000 advanced to the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (Lidom), both teams and the National Federation of Professional Players (Fenapepro).

The lawsuit, filed in the Civil and Commercial Chamber of the Court of First Instance of the National District on November 21, also demands the payment of interest of 2% per month from November, alleging breach of the defendant parties and economic impact after the suspension of the event.Payments Made
According to the sheriff’s act received by those involved, Latin Events disbursed:- US$275,000 to the Águilas Cibaeñas BBC, in two payments of US$137,500 (September 12th and October 16th).
- US$175,000 to Lidom, in two payments of US$87,500.
- US$175,000 to Skanuss Consoulting, a company that manages the Gigantes del Cibao.
- US$150,000 to Fenapepro (October 7th).
Reasons for Cancellation
In its complaint, Latin Events argues that the scheduled series from November 7 to 9 at Citi Field — home of the New York Mets — was affected by “irresistible and unforeseeable circumstances” that caused ticket sales to plummet. Among the cited factors include:- An increase in ICE immigration raids in New York City.
- The holding of the Puerto Rico vs. Dominican Republic All-Star Game a week later, in the same venue, organized by Fenapepro and with the participation of players from both teams, which the company calls “competition” and a violation of the principle of good faith.
