The Mets’ starting pitcher hit his 14th home run of the season in the eighth inning, a three-run blast that traveled 447 feet to the top of left field, thus sealing his great offensive night. In the first inning, he had already punished with another two-run homer, which gave the New Yorkers an early lead.Right-handed pitcher Griffin Canning (6-2) shone on the mound with six scoreless innings, allowing only three hits, with seven strikeouts and one walk, achieving his first victory since May 5th.
For his part, Dodgers’ starter, Tony Gonsolin (3-2), worked five innings in which he allowed three runs —two earned—, with three hits, six strikeouts and three walks.
The Mets took advantage of a defensive error by Kiké Hernández in the first inning to put runners on base. Then, the Dominican Juan Soto drove in Francisco Lindor with a run-scoring groundout before Alonso’s first home run.

Cuban Andy Pagés avoided the shutout for the Dodgers with a solo home run in the ninth inning against Ryne Stanek. Pagés was the most outstanding for Los Angeles, going 4-3 with a run scored and one RBI.
The Mets’ bullpen also responded. In the seventh inning, José Castillo faced a serious threat with runners on first and second, but got out of the jam by striking out Dalton Rushing and Kiké Hernández.
