Distrito Nacional defeats La Vega in women’s volleyball at the Women’s Games

Santo Domingo. – The volleyball team of the National District defeated the La Vega sextet in straight sets 25-14 and 25-10 during the start of the Santo Domingo 2026 Women’s Games. Among the most outstanding players, Harleny de los Santos scored 15 points and Yamil Moya, seven.

In another match, the San Cristóbal team defeated La Romana in three sets. The partials ended 25-7, 23-25 and 15-5. Virelys Rivera was the most outstanding with 26 points. In the discipline of basketball, the Costa Rican quintet won one game and lost another against two Dominican teams this Friday, in the first day of the Women’s Sports Games tournament, held in the newly inaugurated multi-purpose facility of Ciudad Juan Bosch. The Costa Ricans dominated the first match with a score of 50-42 against Dominican Republic A. Pivot María Montero registered 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists to lead the winners. The visitors also had nine points each from Adriana Zúñiga and Fernanda Gómez. In another match, Dominican Republic B defeated Costa Rica 55-53, with outstanding performances by Katherin Sena (15 points), Audrei Peña (14) and Vanessa Bau, who scored five points and 13 rebounds. The international fair, which brings together some 680 athletes, was inaugurated on Thursday and will run until next Sunday, marking its return after a 10-year hiatus by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation. The Women’s Sports Games are dedicated to Mrs. Melba Segura de Grullón, and the Organizing Committee is headed by the world and Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino. The event includes basketball, volleyball, karate, judo, weightlifting, duathlon, athletics, skating, softball, wrestling, and taekwondo competitions.
