Lionel Messi has announced his retirement from the Argentina national team, saying he has “no more to give” after two decades representing the Albiceleste.
“It’s a decision that hurt and still hurts in my soul, but I understand that it is time,” Messi wrote. He also suggested that he may be approaching the end of his overall playing career.
Messi leaves the national team after winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Copa América titles in 2021 and 2024, and the 2022 Finalissima.
