Hurricane Lowell continues north of Hawaii with life-threatening conditions

Hurricane Lowell continues moving north of the Hawaiian Islands while bringing potentially life-threatening conditions, including dangerous surf, landslides and strong winds in several parts of the state, according to NBC News.

The storm reached Category 5 intensity Friday night, with sustained winds of at least 157 mph (253 km/h), before weakening slightly to the upper end of Category 4 on Saturday, with winds between 130 and 156 mph (209 and 251 km/h).
