Indomet forecasts heat and downpours with thunderstorms for this Sunday

Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) forecast a hot environment for this Sunday, with sunny skies and a grayish appearance, due to the presence of Saharan dust particles over the national territory.

During the early hours of the day, weak and isolated showers could be recorded in provinces such as La Altagracia, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, La Romana, Samaná, and María Trinidad Sánchez, associated with the northeast wind flow and the effects of a trough at different levels of the atmosphere.

However, conditions will change during the afternoon, when downpours accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts are expected in San Pedro de Macorís, Greater Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Peravia, Azua, Barahona, and nearby areas.

Indomet explained that these rains will be mainly related to the approach of a tropical wave, which will favor the development of cloudiness and precipitation in different parts of the country.

The meteorological agency is also monitoring two areas of disturbance associated with tropical waves. The first is located southwest of the Cape Verde Islands and has a 20% probability of development over the next seven days, although it could show greater organization by the middle of next week.

The second disturbance could move off the west coast of Africa this Tuesday and currently has a 40% chance of reaching some cyclonic development over the next seven days.

Given these conditions, Indomet recommended that the population stay hydrated, wear light-colored, lightweight clothing, avoid direct sun exposure between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., and try to remain in cool, ventilated spaces.

The institution requested special attention be paid to children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with health conditions that may be affected by high temperatures.
