Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader highlighted this Friday the importance of wastewater treatment, especially in the country’s coastal and tourist areas, during the inauguration of the Juan Dolio Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Abinader stated that the Government is working on similar projects in different parts of the country, with the goal of protecting the soil and ensuring sustainable tourism development.
“For us, wastewater treatment is fundamental, especially in beach locations and cities near the coasts. And that is how we have worked throughout the country,” the president stated.
The president reported that, in addition to Juan Dolio, the Government is developing a plan to install or improve wastewater treatment systems in other locations in the Eastern region, including Boca Chica, La Caleta, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, Higüey, and Verón.

“In the areas with the highest population density and where tourism is located, we are protecting our soils, which is fundamental for the sustainable development of tourism,” he maintained.
Abinader pointed out that the Juan Dolio plant was a project that should have been executed a long time ago and expressed his satisfaction with its completion.
“I am happy that we are finally inaugurating this treatment plant, but I also want to inform you that we are doing the same with a plan in conjunction with the INVI,” he indicated.

During his speech, the president also announced an agreement with the Vicini family to advance the titling of land in Guayacanes, benefiting people who, as he explained, have been living in that area for decades.
“We have already reached an agreement and it is now in the process of negotiation, or finalization of the agreement, especially in Guayacanes. That agreement was with the Vicini family, in such a way that we are going to deliver titles to those who have been living there for decades,” he announced.
Abinader explained that the agreement contemplates a land swap between Nacionales and Grupo Inicia, with the purpose that the people occupying those lands can obtain their property titles and access the formal financial system.
“Those people who live there, who have been there for more than 20, 40 years, can now have their titles and can also access formal banking,” he stated.
The president assured that the process is being carried out within the legal framework and maintained that the measure seeks to provide tranquility, security, and economic development opportunities to the residents of the area.
“We are doing this with full legality so that the people who live here can have tranquility, peace, economic development, and social justice,” he concluded.
