They denounce the dumping of wastewater into the sea near Puerto Plaza, Las Terrenas

Las Terrenas.– A discharge of wastewater directly into the sea, located in the vicinity of Puerto Plaza, has been reported by citizens of this tourist municipality, generating concern among residents and sectors linked to tourism and environmental activity. The situation was evidenced in a video spread on social media, in which a pipe discharging contaminated water towards the coastal zone is observed. According to the information provided, previously these waters surfaced through a register located in the middle of the road; however, a pipe would have been subsequently installed that redirects the flow, causing the discharge to currently occur directly into the sea. The case has reopened the debate on the management and final disposal of wastewater in this area, due to the potential repercussions for public health, the marine ecosystem, and the sustainability of the tourist destination, one of the main economic pillars of the area.

Faced with this situation, citizens and representatives from different sectors are calling on the National Institute of Potable Water and Sewers (INAPA), as well as the competent authorities in environmental matters, to investigate the origin of the spill and adopt the corresponding corrective measures. As of yet, no official position has been issued on this matter.
