The Ministry of Agriculture, together with local table and industrial grape producers, began the harvest of this fruit with an approximate yield of four thousand boxes per hectare, a figure that doubles the international average in this area.
This planting project, backed by the Government, began in Montecristi and has expanded to the community of Pedro Corto, in San Juan, showing highly positive results. Currently, Agriculture has identified new cultivation areas in the south and other regions of the country.
Minister Limber Cruz highlighted that, thanks to the quality of the national product, companies from France, Spain, Italy and other nations are setting up in the Dominican Republic for the production of wines, ciders and other raw materials derived from grapes.
The San Juan project covers approximately 18 hectares under development, with Timpson and Sweet Celebration varieties, both seedless, intended for both the local market and export.
Producer Alberto Ramírez reported that they currently supply national supermarkets and several cities in the United States.
Also participating were the administrator of the Agricultural Bank, Fernando Durán, the director of Inespre, David Herrera, and local producers.
