Santiago.– The Archbishop of La Vega, Monsignor Carlos Tomás Morel Diplán, raised his voice in alarm at the escalation of crimes that has shaken the country in recent days, stating that the recent murders demonstrate a profound crisis of values and a worrying deterioration of respect for life.
The prelate expressed that the bloodshed recorded recently is difficult to assimilate and reflects the level of violence that Dominican society is experiencing.
In that sense, the monsignor expressed his dismay by questioning how a person can murder another in cold blood, referring to the crime of Rosa Marte, known as Rosita, who was kidnapped by her daughter-in-law, Mariela Figuereo, a sergeant in the Air Force, accused of taking her mother-in-law’s life by stoning her. The lifeless body was found in Azua.
Likewise, the clergyman referred to the case of the woman accused of taking the life of her 10-year-old daughter, in an incident that occurred last Saturday in the Bienvenido batey, in Manoguayabo, Santo Domingo Oeste municipality.
“One puts their hand to their head and says: how is it possible for one woman to murder another so coldly? How is it possible for a mother to kill her own daughter? How is it possible that we are killing each other?”, he/she expressed.

Morel Diplán warned that the country is facing a reality that can no longer be normalized and called on all sectors to assume their responsibility to rescue values, strengthen the family, and promote a culture of peace that allows for stopping the growing wave of violence.
The archbishop insisted that society must react urgently to these events, considering that each crime represents an alarm signal regarding the deterioration of coexistence and the need to rebuild the social fabric.
