Canadian father arrested in death of daughter found in NY pond

TICONDEROGA. – A 45-year-old man, of Canadian nationality, was arrested this Monday after it was confirmed that his 9-year-old daughter, reported missing and allegedly kidnapped, was found dead in a wooded pond in the Adirondacks region. The authorities charged him with second-degree murder and concealment of a corpse.

The father had issued the alert on Saturday night, claiming that the minor had been taken from his presence near a vehicle, which triggered an Amber Alert and a large-scale police operation. Quickly, the father’s version began to present contradictions and the investigators ruled out any lead about a real kidnapping.

Agents tracked the terrain until the body was found submerged in a shallow part of the pond on Sunday morning, hidden under a log. The autopsy is underway to establish the precise cause of death.

The subject, a businessman based in Montreal with connections to a coffee company, appeared in local court yesterday wearing protective gear. He claimed inability to hire legal defense and pleaded “not guilty.” According to previous records, he had no criminal record, nor for domestic violence.

Authorities reported that the man and his daughter arrived in the area on July 11 and had spent Saturday afternoon in Saratoga Springs, where they were captured by security cameras. Subsequently, the girl spoke on the phone with her mother without apparent signs of danger. Police governance attributes the discovery of the body to a joint operation between the State Police, forest rangers, K-9s, and aerial units. More information about the motive for the crime is expected to be revealed in the coming days during court hearings.
