Santo Domingo. – The deputy for Constituency 1 of the National District, Charlie Mariotti Paz, strongly criticized the Government after the general blackout recently registered in the country and asked for clear explanations about the destination of the economic resources allocated to the electrical system. The legislator pointed out that, since 2020, loans exceeding 90 billion pesos have been approved to strengthen the Electricity Distribution Companies (EDES), the Dominican Electric Transmission Company (ETED), and improve service efficiency. However, he maintained that the results are not reflected in the quality of the supply. “Million-dollar investments are announced every year, but the reality is that the electrical service continues to deteriorate. The citizenry deserves to know where those funds have been invested and why concrete improvements are not perceived,” he stated. Mariotti Paz considered that the constant indebtedness without visible progress generates concern and distrust in the population. In his opinion, the lack of progress in the energy system shows management problems that must be corrected urgently.

The deputy also raised the need to review the sector’s administration and assess responsibilities. “The country requires effective solutions and officials who respond with results, not with more justifications while people continue to face blackouts,” he stated. The statements come amid a national debate about the stability of the electrical service and transparency in the management of public resources allocated to that strategic area.
