Bogotá.- The far-right Abelardo de la Espriella was proclaimed this Wednesday by the National Electoral Council (CNE) as president-elect of Colombia for the 2026-2030 term after the scrutiny concluded, while the leftist Iván Cepeda will carry out oversight work as leader of the opposition in Congress.
n” “nThe delegate registrar for electoral matters, Jaime Hernando Suárez, read this afternoon the resolution that declares “citizen Abelardo Gabriel de la Espriella Otero elected” as “President of the Republic of Colombia” and José Manuel Restrepo as vice president-elect.
n” “nThe resolution orders that “the respective credentials as president and vice president” be delivered to De la Espriella and Restrepo, respectively, in a ceremony that will take place on Thursday.
“Today the CNE concludes one of the most transcendental acts of our democracy: the national scrutiny of the presidential election runoff has been completed. I want to state that the scrutiny carried out is not just a formality, but the most rigorous verification of what was expressed in the popular will,” pointed out the president of the CNE, Cristian Quiroz, during the proclamation.
