SANTO DOMINGO.- The Chamber of Deputies approved this Tuesday to accept the modifications made by the Senate of the Republic to the bill through which November 19 of each year is declared Geriatrician’s Day, with the purpose of recognizing and honoring the work of geriatric professionals in the Dominican Republic.
With the approval of the modifications made by the Senate, the legal text promoted by the Vice President of the Chamber of Deputies, Dharuelly D’Azacon, has become law, pending promulgation by the Executive Branch.
The geriatrician is the professional specialized in the care of the elderly, whose approach seeks to maintain and recover the functionality of the aging person, to achieve the maximum level of autonomy and independence, allowing them a full and dignified life regardless of age.
Also, the deputies approved sending the Organic Law of the National Police bill to the Permanent Commission of Interior and Police, with a deadline set for next Tuesday.

The bill, sent to the National Congress by the Executive Branch, was previously approved in the Senate of the Republic on July 10th of the current month.
In addition, the deputies sent to a Special Commission the bill that regulates gambling in the Dominican Republic, proposed by Senator Pedro Catrain.
The Special Commission was composed of the spokespersons of the three majority benches, Amado Díaz, Rafael Castillo, Gustavo Sánchez, Braulio Espinal, Rafaela González, José Alberto Jiménez, Heidy Musa, Nicolás López, Milly Martínez, Gray Pérez, Dilenia Santos, Lucy de León, Patricia Núñez, Yancarlos Simanca, Moisés Ortiz, Melina Sánchez, Héctor Fodil Rosa and Rogelio Genao Lanza, who presides over it.
In addition, the plenary session held a minute of silence in memory of the former senator for Dajabón, Juan Agustín Zapata, and for the teacher of generations at the Loyola Polytechnic Institute and leader of the Modern Revolutionary Party in San Cristóbal, Fredy García.
At the end of the session, the deputies were summoned for next Thursday the 16th of the current month, at 1:00 in the afternoon.
