DICRIM captures man accused of assaulting teenager with a machete in Navarrete

Santiago.- Agents of the Central Investigation Directorate (DICRIM) arrested a man identified as the alleged person responsible for robbing a teenager of her cell phone while threatening her with a machete, an incident that was recorded on video and went viral on social media.

The detainee is Ángel Luis Vargas, 42 years old, who was located and arrested this Friday morning on Mella Street, specifically in the El Callejón de La Culebra sector, in the municipality of Navarrete.

According to investigations, the audiovisual shows the suspect intercepting the minor and allegedly snatching an Itel brand cell phone from her, using a machete to intimidate her.

During the interrogations, Vargas allegedly admitted that he subsequently sold the device to another person for RD$750, which is why investigators are actively searching for the buyer to establish their possible liability and recover the equipment.
