Dominicans lean towards Venezuela after RD’s elimination from the 2026 World Baseball Classic

SANTO DOMINGO.– Following the defeat of the Dominican Republic’s team against the United States in the World Baseball Classic, citizens expressed divided opinions on which team they will support going forward in the tournament. During a tour of different sectors of the capital, some fans stated that they will now support the Venezuelan national team, considering that the championship should stay in Latin America. “Let Venezuela win. If it were up to me, I am not Venezuelan, but I am not American either. They beat us and now I am going to support them,” said Marcos Jiménez. Other Dominican citizens agreed with this position and said they expect a victory for the Venezuelan team in their next match against Italy.

“Hopefully Venezuela wins to get revenge for what they did to us… now they have to beat Italy,” expressed another fan. However, not everyone shares the same opinion. Some, despite the elimination of the Dominican team, indicated that they will support the United States, considering that they have a strong and competitive team. ”I am going to the United States because those people know about that”, said another citizen consulted. Meanwhile, this Monday, Italy and Venezuela face each other in a match that will define which of the two teams will advance to the final of the World Baseball Classic to face the United States.
