Caracas.- The acting president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, announced this Wednesday that she declared March 17 as the National Baseball Day in the country, to commemorate the first victory of a national team in the World Baseball Classic after the final played this Tuesday with the United States. During an event at the Miraflores presidential palace, in which ministers and members of the Government participated, Rodríguez said that he decreed this a holiday in homage to the new champions. He added that he approved the creation of a ‘Walk of Stars’ in Plaza de la Juventud, in western Caracas, to highlight the players of the Venezuelan national team and that “each of their names shines on those stars”.

This proposal, he added, he took it from the star Ronald Acuña Jr., who on Tuesday published on his Instagram account an image of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, in the United States, accompanied by the message: “A floor like this in Caracas with all our names” and those of “all those who were part of this“.

Please and thank you. That’s all I want,” added the Atlanta Braves player.

The official presented the tournament cup to a crowd of people who gathered outside the Executive headquarters and assured that she is making arrangements with the United States Government and several of the Major League teams – who are in the middle of spring training – to allow the players to visit their country. On Tuesday, after Venezuela’s victory, Rodríguez decreed this Wednesday as a non-working ‘day of national jubilation’, with the exception of workers in “essential services”. Venezuela defeated the United States national team 3-2 at LoanPark stadium in Miami.
