Gerardo Suero celebrates gold in 3×3 basketball: “Winning it at home was an indescribable feeling”

Santo Domingo. – Basketball player Ángel Gerardo Suero stated that the gold medal won by the national 3×3 basketball team at the 2026 Santo Domingo Central American and Caribbean Games represents one of the most special moments of his career, having been achieved in front of the Dominican crowd.
During an interview granted to De Último Minuto at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium, where he was attending to support sprinter Marileidy Paulino before her competition, Suero described the emotion he felt upon being crowned champion alongside his teammates.
“It was an incredible feeling to be able to achieve that gold. It is my third medal in the Central American Games, but I had never won one here in the Dominican Republic. Having achieved it in front of our public and our family was a feeling that cannot be described,” he expressed.
The player stated that the fans’ support was a key element in enjoying the victory even more and took the opportunity to send a message of support to the other Dominican athletes participating in the regional event.
“We are now here supporting all our Dominican athletes so that they continue to achieve accomplishments and medals for the Dominican Republic,” he stated.
From athletics to basketball
Suero also spoke about his athletic beginnings and explained that, although his father was a prominent athlete and both he and his brother practiced track and field during their youth, they ultimately chose basketball due to the influence of the Villajuana sector and the Mauricio Báez club.
“We practiced athletics when we were young, I participated in many competitions and achieved several accomplishments, but we identified more with basketball because we are from Villajuana and that was what we breathed every day,” he pointed out.
The athlete highlighted that the sports training received from his parents has been decisive for the success achieved in his career.
