International Book Fair will have extensive security measures

The country’s biggest literary event will also have around 1300 parking spaces available for visitors. Santo Domingo.– The Santo Domingo International Book Fair 2025 will be held from September 25 to October 5 in the Plaza de la Cultura Juan Pablo Duarte, with a program of more than 600 activities and an unprecedented security device designed to guarantee the tranquility of visitors and collaborators. In this edition, the fair will pay tribute to historian Frank Moya Pons in recognition of his invaluable contribution to the bibliographical and cultural heritage of the nation. Likewise, it will be dedicated to children’s literature and will have as its guest of honor the Network of Literary Fairs and Festivals of Latin America, reaffirming its status as the country’s largest literary event, certified since 2023 with the country brand seal. The security operation, organized by sectors and areas of responsibility, will have the participation of more than 500 members of the Armed Forces (ERD, ARD, FARD), National Police, Preventive Police, Criminal Investigations Department, School Police, Municipal Police, Politur and the State intelligence agencies, as well as the National Drug Control Directorate. Your mission will be to maintain a controlled and safe environment for families, prevent incidents through surveillance throughout the perimeter and facilities, and offer quick responses to any eventuality. For their part, the General Directorate of Traffic and Ground Transportation Safety (DIGESETT) and the National Institute of Traffic and Ground Transportation (INTRANT) will ensure order and vehicular flow on the roads adjacent to the Plaza de la Cultura, guaranteeing pedestrian safety and organized access to the enabled parking lots. The outer perimeter of the fairgrounds will encompass the Máximo Gómez, César Nicolás Penson, and Pedro Henríquez Ureña avenues, where preventive patrols and access controls will be carried out. Continuous rounds will be conducted within the said enclosure, with special attention to the children’s area and the pavilions.

The fair will feature 15 thematic pavilions, three conference rooms, two auditoriums, and 123 exhibition spaces. Among its more than 600 activities, 182 book presentations, 33 conferences, 125 talks, 65 workshops, and 103 colloquiums stand out, many of them aimed at children and young people. To ensure safety, entries and exits will be controlled with metal detectors and visual inspections. In this regard, access to the premises with firearms, bladed weapons, or sharp objects will be strictly prohibited. Similarly, alcoholic beverages, glass containers, and political or religious propaganda unrelated to the event will not be allowed, as well as the presence of street vendors and unauthorized vehicles.
