Santo Domingo.– Aware of the enormous challenge that mobility represents and the scope of its daily logistics operation, Industrias San Miguel (ISM) is taking an active role in prevention, joining the efforts of the National Pact for Road Safety and the goal set in Decree 656-24 to reduce traffic accidents by 50% by the year 2030.
On this path of constant work, the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT) awarded the company the National Recognition for Excellence in Good Corporate Road Safety Practices, an initiative that seeks to value the actions of the private sector aimed at protecting life.
To this end, ISM’s processes and initiatives were presented and evaluated before a Technical Evaluation Commission, reaffirming the organization’s commitment to join efforts with other companies to strengthen the culture of prevention in the country.

In provinces such as Santiago Rodríguez, Santo Domingo, La Vega, and La Romana, ISM has focused its efforts on training its distribution personnel. Aligned with Law 63-17 and under the guidelines of the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (INTRANT), ISM managed to certify 389 drivers through the National School of Road Education (ENEVIAL), reaching more than 85% of its heavy transport fleet.
This comprehensive training included specialized technical instruction focused on defensive driving, law enforcement compliance, and roadside crisis management, complemented by tools for emotional control, stress management, and rigorous psychotechnical, sensometric, and psychoemotional evaluations.

Understanding that this commitment requires resources and concrete actions in the face of a complex problem, ISM allocates an average investment of 2.5 million dollars annually to its transport division. More than just a technological deployment, the company views this budget as a fundamental duty to equip its units with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and real-time GPS monitoring that goes beyond geographical location: it allows for the protection of drivers and the environment by detecting operational risks such as sudden braking or dangerous turns.
Alongside technology, the organization understands that prevention requires taking care of the human factor. For this reason, it has restructured its travel circuits to ensure that driving shifts do not exceed five continuous hours, thus mitigating risks due to fatigue.
This measure is complemented by an unwavering prevention protocol that requires a mandatory zero-alcohol test before starting each shift. This combination of technology, preparation, and risk awareness has allowed for tangible progress in the operation, achieving a 65% reduction in road risk alerts on the route.

With the conviction that the protection of life must transcend the company’s doors, ISM has also coordinated efforts with local authorities and DIGESETT to directly impact communities. These actions include awareness campaigns with the distribution of helmets to motorcyclists, as well as investment in preventive signage, traffic lights, and speed bumps in school zones and vulnerable crossings in the Sabaneta municipality.
