Santo Domingo.– The director of the National Health Service (SNS), Julio Landrón, considered it necessary to review the provisions of the new Penal Code related to the practice of medicine, while reporting that the hospitals of the Public Network will receive an increase of more than 150% in payments from the National Health Insurance (SeNaSa) for the care of contributory regime affiliates.
Landrón offered his statements during a floral offering ceremony at the Altar of the Fatherland, on the occasion of the 11th anniversary of the National Health Service, where he highlighted the importance of strengthening both the legal framework of the sector and the resources allocated to the healthcare system.
When referring to the observations made by the Dominican Medical Association (CMD) regarding the articles of the Penal Code linked to medical practice, he pointed out that these must be analyzed through a process of dialogue and participation of the sectors involved.
The official stated that the regulations must take into account professional responsibility, the training of doctors, and the need to guarantee quality care for patients.
On another note, he reported that starting August 1st, SeNaSa will apply an increase of over 150% to the rates it pays public hospitals for services provided to contributors of the contributory regime.

He explained that the measure seeks for Public Network centers to receive resources similar to those currently allocated to private clinics, allowing for expanded care and reducing the expenses that some patients must bear.

Landrón also announced progress in the remodeling of the Doctor Antonio Musa Regional Hospital, in San Pedro de Macorís, where the delivery of renovated areas is expected between August and September and the total completion of the works by November. In addition, he indicated that the center will have new diagnostic equipment, including a magnetic resonance imaging scanner and a CT scanner.
Likewise, he reported that the Teófilo Hernández Hospital, in El Seibo, will be delivered completely renovated between September and October of this year.
