Santo Domingo. – The president of the People’s Force (Fuerza del Pueblo) and former president of the Republic, Leonel Fernández, assured this Friday that the growth of that political organization is due to the fact that it has known how to interpret the aspirations of the Dominican people, while leading the inauguration ceremony of the Citizen Convergence House, the new headquarters of the platform that brings together social, community, professional, and citizen movements that support his leadership.
“La Fuerza del Pueblo is interpreting what the dreams and aspirations of the Dominican people are, and that is allowing a greater number of citizens to join our organization,” stated Fernández during his keynote speech.
The former president maintained that Citizen Convergence is born to integrate thousands of Dominicans who sympathize with his political project, but who for various reasons prefer not to be part of a partisan organization.
“As Manolo Pichardo used to say, for different work-related reasons, there are people who do not want to be organized in political parties; that is what movements are for, and that is why Convergencia Ciudadana emerged,” he expressed.
During the activity, Fernández formally inaugurated the Citizen Convergence House, located at 153 Lea de Castro Street, Gazcue sector, National District, in an event that brought together political leaders, representatives of social movements, business people, and community leaders.

The inauguration marked the beginning of a new stage of organization and coordination for the movements that make up Citizen Convergence, conceived as a permanent space for dialogue, planning, and joint work among the different sectors that support this initiative.
The general secretary of Convergencia Ciudadana, Elena Mejía, officially presented the first movements that make up the platform and stated: “Today I present to you the raw material of Convergencia, which are its movements”.

During her speech, Elena Mejía introduced the Caminemos con Leonel movement, represented by Carlos Sánchez; Ven Conmigo, represented by Ricky Rodríguez; Cinéfilos, led by Mario Hidalgo; and República Fuerte, represented by Dr. Elisa Guzmán.
Likewise, he presented Nueva Fuerza Obrera, whose representative is Ramón Mosquea; Respaldo Ciudadano, represented by Jesús Miguel García; Hombres y Mujeres con Leonel, represented by Rebeca Ortiz; and Voy Seguro, headed by Magdaleno Buret.
Similarly, the movements Youth in Action, represented by Julio Collado; The Lion Returns, by Gregory Marte; The Lion’s Pack, by Valentino Diéguez; and More Leonel, represented by Ramón Morales, who was absent during the activity, were presented.
Also presented were the MIDE movement, represented by César Mota; El Regreso de Leonel, led by José Diéguez; Convergencia de la Fe, represented by Xiomara Rodríguez; Las Cayenas, by Patria Pérez; and Pluma Verde, by Manuel Nova.
In his words, the president of Convergencia Ciudadana, Manolo Pichardo, stated that the organization emerges as a response to the sentiment of broad sectors of Dominican society.
“Convergencia Ciudadana was not born in an office, it is not an artificial intelligence project; Convergencia was born from the frustration that the Dominican people feel today,” he stated.
Pichardo further explained that the purpose of the platform is to expand the reach of the political project led by Leonel Fernández toward sectors that traditionally do not participate in party organizations.
“The task of the Convergence is to reach where the People’s Force (Fuerza del Pueblo) does not reach, nor its allied parties, because there are people who do not want to be in a political party, but do support the leadership of Leonel Fernández,” he expressed.
During the event, artistic and audiovisual expressions were also presented that highlighted the platform’s objectives, before Fernández, Pichardo, and Mejía performed the ribbon-cutting that formally inaugurated the Citizen Convergence House.
