Haina, San Cristóbal.– The mayor of the Bajos de Haina municipality, Osvaldo Rodríguez, asserted this Monday that no president in the history of the Dominican Republic had shown the level of attention and investment that, according to him, that area has received during the administration of President Luis Abinader.
During his speech at the inauguration ceremony of a new recreational park, led by the president, Rodríguez thanked the government for the works carried out and highlighted the social impact they have had on the quality of life of the municipality’s inhabitants.
“You will say: ‘Osvaldo, I have carried out many works in Haina and you keep requesting works, you keep managing works’. But something happens, Mr. President: none of the presidents who have passed through the history of the Dominican Republic have looked at Haina the way you have looked at it”, expressed the municipal executive.

Rodríguez recalled that, historically, Haina only had two works of great relevance: the sports center, built during the administration of former President Hipólito Mejía, and the market built by the Economic Canteens. However, he maintained that the number of projects developed during the current administration far exceeds those carried out in the past, especially due to the impact they have generated on the community.
Among the initiatives mentioned, he cited the installation of the Technological Institute of the Americas (ITLA) in Haina, the restoration of the municipality’s boardwalk, the paving of streets, the intervention of the landfill, and improvements to the drinking water system.
Likewise, he highlighted the transformation of the space inaugurated this Monday, noting that it was previously abandoned, overgrown with weeds, and had a drug dealing spot present.

“Today we are receiving a space that will serve for health, for exercising, for family gatherings, and also to boost the economic aspect of our community,” he stated.
The mayor stated that the new park represents an opportunity to foster healthy coexistence, recreation, and the recovery of public spaces for the benefit of children, youth, and adults.
The activity was led by President Luis Abinader and was attended by national and municipal authorities, representatives of the tourism and business sectors, legislators, mayors, council members, directors, and community leaders from the San Cristóbal province.
