Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM) and the Foundation for the Development of Dominican Cinema (PROCINE) signed a cooperation agreement with the objective of strengthening the audiovisual sector as a tool for the growth of the creative economy, job creation, and the international projection of Dominican talent.
The initiative is part of the National Strategy for the Export of Modern Services (ENESM) and seeks to position the country as a competitive destination for audiovisual production, through capacity building, the promotion of innovation, and the attraction of new investments.
As part of the agreement, both institutions will work on the execution of the Smart Labs program, an initiative aimed at training young people in areas such as screenwriting, production, post-production, and digital content creation, with the purpose of strengthening their skills within the creative industry.
In addition, workshops are planned in conjunction with SmartFilms Dominicana, focused on the production of audiovisual stories using mobile devices, as well as the development of new projects that contribute to the growth of Dominican cinema.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, Víctor “Yayo” Sanz Lovatón, and the president of PROCINE, Hans García, who highlighted the importance of continuing to promote an industry that contributes to the country’s economic and cultural development.

Lovatón pointed out that the audiovisual sector represents an opportunity to create higher value-added jobs, attract foreign investment, and strengthen the image of the Dominican Republic in international markets.
For his part, García highlighted the growth that the national film industry has experienced following the approval of Law No. 108-10 for the Promotion of Cinematographic Activity, noting that since then, more than 300 companies linked to the sector have been created.

Within the commitments made, the MICM will provide technical, institutional, and financial support to the Smart Labs program, while PROCINE will be responsible for recruiting at least 1,000 young people, developing ten training workshops, and producing 70 audiovisuals.
The alliance seeks to continue strengthening the orange economy and expanding opportunities for new Dominican talent within an industry that has gained greater presence nationally and internationally in recent years.
