Santo Domingo. – The General Directorate of Migration (DGM), in coordination with State security agencies, reported that during the interdiction operations carried out this Tuesday, 1,109 foreigners in an irregular migratory condition were detained in different provinces of the country.
According to the official report, the provinces of Santo Domingo and Elías Piña registered a total of 210 detentions, being the demarcations with the highest incidence during the day. In Elías Piña, 120 people were detained, while in Santo Domingo, 90 cases were recorded.
Migration control actions were carried out in sectors such as Ciudad Juan Bosch, Los Guarícanos, Cristo Rey and Herrera, as well as in the municipality of Haina, in the province of San Cristóbal. The operations were supported by members of the Armed Forces and the National Police.
Of the total detainees, 331 were handed over to the DGM by different institutions. The Dominican Republic Army reported the detention of 223 people, the National Police 106, and the Specialized Corps of Terrestrial Border Security (Cesfront) two.
The authorities also reported that, after completing the corresponding processes, 892 undocumented foreigners were deported through the border posts of Dajabón, Elías Piña, Jimaní and Pedernales. The largest number of repatriations was carried out through Elías Piña, with 451 people, followed by Dajabón with 228, Jimaní with 135 and Pedernales with 78.
In addition to Santo Domingo and Elías Piña, the provinces with the most arrests were La Vega, with 86; La Altagracia, with 62; and Pedernales, with 61. Operations were also carried out in Barahona, Independencia, María Trinidad Sánchez, Dajabón, Montecristi, Santiago, Puerto Plata, Valverde, San Juan, Bahoruco, Espaillat, Peravia, Samaná and Santiago Rodríguez.
In the province of La Altagracia, the interventions covered locations such as Otra Banda, Bávaro, Verón, Barrio Nuevo, Villa Playwood, Guateque, Machiplan and La Palma avenue, in the Punta Cana-Bávaro corridor.
Meanwhile, in Dajabón, the operations were carried out in Partido, Chacuey, Sabana Larga and La Aviación; in Jimaní, in the Tierra Nueva and Boca de Cachón sectors; and in Montecristi, in Las Matas de Santa Cruz, Castañuelas and Santa María.
The General Directorate of Migration indicated that these actions are part of the permanent operations aimed at reinforcing migration control and ensuring compliance with current laws on foreign affairs and residency in the national territory.
