Santo Domingo.- The Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (Minerd) continues executing the comprehensive preparation plan for the start of the 2026-2027 school year, through the distribution of educational materials, the delivery of school supplies, and the opening of new classrooms, with the goal of ensuring that students and teachers find the necessary conditions from the first day of classes.
As part of these preparations, the Ministry of Education has distributed 3,071,764 textbooks and 4,532,609 workbooks, while the National Institute of Student Welfare (INABIE) has delivered 678,925 school supply kits and the School Infrastructure Directorate is developing a program that includes the delivery of 1,500 new classrooms for the start of the school year in August and to complete between 2,300 and 2,500 by the end of the year.
Of the total books distributed, 127,746 correspond to the initial level, 2,273,714 to the primary level, and 670,305 to the secondary level. Likewise, 4,532,609 workbooks have been dispatched, of which 1,838,524 correspond to the primary level and 2,675,143 to the secondary level, as part of the pedagogical resources that will be available for the development of teaching.
Distribution continues in a staggered manner from the logistics centers in Haina, Pedro Brand, and Santiago until delivery is completed throughout the national territory before the start of the school calendar.

In parallel, INABIE has distributed 678,925 school supply kits, equivalent to 38% of the programming planned for the 2026-2027 school year. The materials have been sent to 33 School Districts, which group together 1,574 schools in the National District and the provinces of Santo Domingo, Santiago, Barahona, and Bahoruco.
This year, the Government plans to benefit 1,806,872 students from 6,577 educational centers with the free delivery of school supplies and uniforms, which represents an estimated savings of between RD 3,864 and RD 5,433 per student for Dominican families.
As part of the preparation plan for the upcoming academic year, the School Infrastructure Directorate projects to deliver 1,500 new classrooms by the start of the school year in August and to complete between 2,300 and 2,500 by the end of the year. The institution reiterated that the demand for student placements will be met by the start of classes on August 24th and that, while new buildings are being completed, it will continue the program of space habilitation and leasing of premises in areas where demand remains highest.
