Santo Domingo Este.-The School Infrastructure Directorate (DIE) of the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD) reported that they are putting the finishing touches on the construction work of the Cancino Adentro I Basic School (Santiago Hirujo Sosa), in Santo Domingo Este, which shows an advancement level of more than 95%, which will allow its incorporation into the new 2026-2027 school year, which begins next week.
The campus has two three-story modules each and another one-story block, totaling 25 classrooms, including three for early childhood education, whose educational project will positively impact more than 880 students in the Cancino Adentro sector, in the municipality of Santo Domingo Este and surrounding areas.
During a permanent supervision and follow-up tour this Wednesday, the Director of School Infrastructure, engineer Roberto Herrera, and a technical team from the institution, verified that work is being carried out at full capacity at the educational center in accordance with the schedule for the progress, completion, and delivery of school works, with the required quality standards.
Meanwhile, engineer Jimmy Adames Figuereo, representative of the construction company, guaranteed that the high level of progress of the educational center will allow for its timely delivery to be inaugurated in the coming days, which is part of the work being carried out through the “Classrooms 24/7-365” Plan, which the Government is promoting throughout the national territory to improve the quality of education in the country.
He specified that the structure had been stalled for more than 12 years and, after being intervened by School Infrastructure, it was decided to accelerate the work to finish it within the stipulated time, since it had been demanded by the educational community for more than a decade.

Likewise, during a supervision day at schools in Santo Domingo Este and Boca Chica, the School Infrastructure authorities also toured the El Tamarindo High School, which has 24 classrooms and will benefit 840 students; the Camila Henríquez Ureña Primary School, in the Brisas del Este sector, which has 10 modular classrooms to house 350 students, and the Emilio Prud’Homme High School in Boca Chica.
Similarly, they visited the Andrés Boca Chica I Childcare Center, which consists of 8 classrooms to guarantee assistance to more than 300 children, and the José Francisco Peña Gómez Modular Classrooms educational project, where 29 classrooms, a double court, administrative offices, among other areas, are being built for the benefit of more than 1,000 students in the area.

The Director of School Infrastructure, Roberto Herrera, reiterated that these works are being carried out throughout the country under the instructions of President Luis Abinader and under the coordination and supervision of the Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, with the purpose of guaranteeing dignified, optimal, and safe physical spaces to strengthen teaching and learning and continue improving educational quality.
More than 2,000 students will benefit
The works built by the Government through the MINERD School Infrastructure Directorate will benefit more than 2,000 students in Santo Domingo Este and Boca Chica, by incorporating new educational spaces and expanding the capacity of the schools located in these communities.
The work being carried out in these educational centers is part of the actions aimed at expanding the capacity of the facilities and facilitating student access to spaces suitable for the development of academic activities. The interventions include the construction of new classrooms and other areas necessary for the operation of the centers.
In the case of the Cancino Adentro I Basic School, the completion of the work will allow the educational community to have a facility with the capacity to meet the demand of students from the sector and nearby areas. The project includes spaces for different educational levels, including areas intended for early childhood education.
During the supervision tours, the School Infrastructure team verified the progress of the works and the conditions of the tasks being carried out in each of the visited projects. These efforts seek to ensure that the centers are delivered in adequate conditions to receive students during the new school year.
