Santo Domingo.– The president of the Organizing Committee for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, José P. Monegro, highlighted the support received from presidents Luis Abinader and Danilo Medina to make the celebration of this important sporting event in the Dominican Republic possible.
Monegro explained that the bid presented during Medina’s administration allowed the country to obtain the host status for the Games, while the support provided by President Abinader’s government has been decisive for the organization and development of the sporting event.
Likewise, he valued the support offered by former presidents Leonel Fernández and Hipólito Mejía, considering that sport has managed to bring together different political sectors in favor of a common goal for the country.
The XXV Central American and Caribbean Games are held from July 24 to August 8, 2026 with the participation of athletes from 37 countries, in an edition that coincides with the centenary of the creation of this competition, considered the oldest on the continent.

The Dominican Republic hosts this regional competition for the third time, after organizing the 1974 and 1986 editions, both in Santo Domingo. This year’s version also holds historical value as it commemorates the 100 years since the celebration of the first Games, held in 1926.
For the realization of the event, the Government executed an extensive investment program aimed at the rehabilitation and modernization of sports facilities, the construction of the Central American and Caribbean Village in Ciudad Juan Bosch, as well as improvements in road and urban infrastructure, with the purpose of strengthening national sports and leaving a legacy for future generations of athletes.
