Santo Domingo.– The president of the Organizing Committee for the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, José Monegro, confirmed that the closing ceremony of the sporting event will be held next Saturday at the Arena Banreservas, clearing up doubts that had arisen regarding the venue where the regional competition will conclude.
During an interview granted to De Último Minuto from the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium, Monegro explained that the decision responds to both logistical and operational reasons, as the athletics competitions will continue to take place at that venue until Saturday.
“The closing ceremony is at the Olympic Center, at the Palacio de los Deportes, in the Banreservas Arena. As is the case with these types of events, it is an activity aimed primarily at volunteers, athletes, and collaborators, so it will be a more intimate setting,” he indicated.
The official pointed out that the Olympic Stadium could not be used for the ceremony because it will still be hosting competitions and the setup for a show of that magnitude requires several days of preparation.
“We are still competing here. There is no time for setup and you know that preparing a closing event takes approximately a week,” he added.

Monegro offered his statements after Marileidy Paulino’s victory on the track at the Olympic Stadium, a race that brought together thousands of fans despite the intense rain recorded during the day.
“When the rain fell and Marileidy ran, everything was forgotten,” commented the president of the Organizing Committee, highlighting the enthusiasm of the crowd that remained in the stands to support the Dominican champion.

Likewise, he highlighted that the day was especially positive for the national delegation, which also added another gold medal in the 400 meters.
Wait for confirmation on the 4×100 mixed relay
When asked about the appeal filed by the Dominican Republic in the mixed 4×100 meter relay event, Monegro indicated that, although it had transpired that the country regained the gold medal, the Organizing Committee had not yet received official notification.
“They made the report a few minutes ago. I hope that is the case, but as president of the Organizing Committee, I have to wait for the official information. The most important thing is that the rules are fair and applied correctly for everyone,” he expressed.
The Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games are entering their final stretch and will conclude this Saturday with the closing ceremony at the Banreservas Arena, putting an end to one of the biggest sporting events held in the Dominican Republic.
