Santiago.– Residents, family members, and friends of the young Miguel Ángel Miranda Flete, 23 years old, set fire to tires and held a protest yesterday afternoon in the community of La Ceibita, south of the province of Santiago, demanding justice and to ensure that his death does not go unpunished, after he was buried.
The demonstration took place after the burial of the young man, whose death has generated consternation in this area of Santiago, as it is linked to an alleged police abuse that occurred on December 25th, around 7:00 in the morning, while a celebration was taking place on the public road.
According to versions offered by the victim’s relatives, police officers arrived at the scene and acted violently, delivering blows that caused several boxes of beer located in the area to fall, as well as aggressions against other people present at the activity.

During the protest, at least six family members and friends lit tires as a way to get the authorities’ attention, demanding that the case be clarified and that responsibilities be determined. Although the protesters did not offer statements to cameras, they reiterated their demand for justice.

Faced with the event, the National Police reported that Second Lieutenant Vicente Encarnación Jersin, allegedly involved in the incident, was suspended from his duties and placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry. The officer was remanded under police custody, along with his service weapon, to the Department of Internal Affairs of the Santiago Prosecutor’s Office, where he is being investigated in connection with the circumstances in which the shot was fired.
Miguel Ángel Miranda Flete passed away on December 29, 2025, while admitted to a health center, as a result of a gunshot wound to the head, according to official medical certification.
The case has generated concern among the residents of La Ceibita, who hope that the authorities will expand the information, deepen the investigations, and establish the corresponding responsibilities to prevent the act from going unpunished.
