The price of premium gasoline in the Dominican Republic was last adjusted upwards in July 2023, when it went from RD$291.60 to RD$293.10. Since then, it only went down again in December 2023, when a price of RD$290.10 was set, a value that remained frozen since then, to be adjusted upwards again last Friday, RD$295.10 per gallon, after increasing by RD$5.00. However, the import parity price (PPI), which is the total cost to acquire and bring it to the local market, was indeed wavering, both downwards and upwards during those 26 months, but these increases were assumed by the Dominican Government, through subsidies so that these increases would not be transferred to the population. That absorption by the Government involved a significant cost in the budgets of 2023, 2024 and 2025. In 2023, the Government allocated approximately RD$11,292.8 million pesos in fuel subsidies, and in 2024, this amount increased to RD$16,294.4 million. In 2025, the cost to the Government for having assumed the fuel price increases exceeded RD$7,207 million.
Last Friday, March 13, the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes (MICM) informed that Premium Gasoline will be sold at RD$295.10 per gallon, Regular Gasoline RD$277.50, Regular Gasoil RD$229.80 and Optimal Gasoil RD$247.10. All of these increased by RD$5.00.
