Santo Domingo.- Vice President Raquel Peña stated that the Government has acted responsibly in the face of the international crisis stemming from tensions in the Middle East, implementing measures to mitigate its impact on the national economy and protect the most vulnerable sectors.
Peña explained that, since the beginning of the crisis, President Luis Abinader has maintained permanent monitoring together with the Government’s economic team regarding the behavior of the price of a barrel of oil and its possible effects on the country.
“Since this international crisis broke out in the Middle East, President Abinader has been with the entire economic team monitoring the behavior of a barrel of oil day by day and how it impacts the economy,” stated the vice president.
Peña highlighted that the authorities have taken the necessary measures to prevent the consequences of the international scenario from negatively affecting the population, especially the lower-income sectors.

“But, above all, the necessary measures have been taken so that it does not negatively impact the most vulnerable sectors,” he pointed out.

He maintained that the Government continues to evaluate the situation constantly and coordinate actions to guarantee economic stability. In that sense, he highlighted the joint work being carried out by the Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, and the president.
“We are working on that, and the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, and President Luis Abinader are working day by day. You have seen how we are handling the crisis situation,” he stated.
The vice president’s statements were made prior to the presentation of the 2026 National Quality Award, an activity organized by the National Association of Companies and Industries of Herrera.
