Motorcycle taxi drivers denounce abandonment by authorities and demand measures to prevent further tragedies
Haina.- Residents and motorcycle taxi drivers in the Quita Sueño community, in the municipality of Haina, demanded urgent intervention from the authorities this Friday due to the high frequency of traffic accidents occurring on the main road, after a sand truck struck a motorcyclist, leaving him seriously injured.
Braulio Cueva, president of the Quita Sueño Motorcyclists Association, attributed part of the problem to the circulation of heavy vehicles in poor condition and questioned the supervision carried out by the competent authorities.
“We are calling primarily on the Intrant, which is the entity in charge of inspecting vehicles. That truck should truly have been out of circulation already. It is only when a tragedy occurs that they take it out of service,” he expressed.

Likewise, he requested a more rigorous review of the licensing process for heavy vehicle drivers.
Another community member, identified as Ronaldo Mujica, stated that the stretch has become a critical point due to the number of fatal accidents recorded over the last few years.
“There are always accidents here, there have always been many deaths. Something must be done, install a crossing or take measures because this is a danger. The authorities do nothing”, he stated.
For his part, Nelson, a motorcycle taxi driver with more than eight years working in the area, recounted that he witnessed the accident and described the moment of anguish experienced when the truck lost control.
“I saw when the truck hit a vehicle and then continued toward the motorcyclist. He opened his arms and the truck ran him over. When I saw that the truck was heading toward where we were, I had to run away because I thought it was going to take everything in its path,” he recounted.
The motorcycle taxi driver indicated that, although the injured man did not belong to his stand, he was known by the drivers in the area and described him as a man between 30 and 35 years old, appreciated by those who frequent the area.
The community members insisted that the Quita Sueño road requires immediate intervention to improve road safety, control heavy vehicle traffic, and prevent further accidents with fatal consequences from occurring.
At least 4 traffic accidents have occurred this Friday. Earlier, a truck hit an electrical utility pole, leaving the road impassable and causing a major traffic jam. Following this incident, another truck carrying cargo that attempted to pass the fallen pole got stuck, further complicating the situation.
