Brussels.– The head of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, rejected this Thursday Spain’s participation in the Peace Council for Gaza promoted by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, as he considers that it is “outside the UN framework”.
Sánchez dismissed the peace participation in that initiative in the press conference he offered in Brussels at the end of the extraordinary meeting of the Twenty-Seven that analyzed the intentions of Trump on Greenland.
For the Prime Minister, that proposal presented this Thursday by the President of the United States at the Davos Forum, initially conceived to oversee his peace plan for Gaza and which he now wants to extend to other global conflicts, in addition to being outside the framework of the UN, does not include the Palestinian National Authority.
«We appreciate the invitation, but we decline to participate in that Board proposed by the US Administration», he stressed before pointing out that he does so above all for coherence with the policy that the Government has been deploying regarding the future of Palestine and the commitment to the multilateral order, the United Nations system and International Law.
The Two-State Solution
Sánchez emphasized that the future of Palestine as a whole must be decided by the Palestinians, as well as that this people and Israel must resolve their peaceful coexistence in a dialogue process that implements the two-state solution, allows the entry of humanitarian aid, and guarantees peace between both countries.
The President of the Government assured that Spain will continue working and committing to a peace process that it has been seeking for 30 years along with many other European partners and the rest of the international community.
In the same way, it will continue to bet on guaranteeing humanitarian aid, reconstruction, stabilization, and the security of Israel and Palestine.
