Shooting in Lagunas de Nisibón leaves two dead and several injured

A violent shooting recorded early this Monday morning in the community of Lagunas de Nisibón, in the province of La Altagracia, left a preliminary balance of two people dead and several injured, causing great concern among the residents of the place.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred around 2:45 in the morning, when an exchange of gunfire took place in circumstances that are still being investigated by the authorities.

Among the fatalities was identified Rubio Villegas, known in the area for owning a gas station in the community, which has generated great consternation among the inhabitants.

Neighbors in the area pointed out that the establishment where the incident occurred was allegedly operating outside of permitted hours, so they question the lack of control by the authorities to prevent the business from continuing to operate at that time.

Following the event, community members have requested a thorough investigation and have called for changes in the police staffing of the area. Meanwhile, members of security agencies and representatives of the Public Ministry are conducting the corresponding investigations to clarify the circumstances of the event.

Among the injured are Israel Martínez and Sergio Estiven Martínez Vargas, 32 years old, both residents of the municipality of La Sabana de Nisibón.

According to medical reports, Martinez sustained a gunshot wound to the right leg, while Martinez Vargas received a projectile impact to the abdomen. Authorities continue to investigate to determine the responsibilities in this case.
