São Paulo.- Brazil’s electoral justice system resolved this Thursday the obstacles that were preventing the registration of Flávio Bolsonaro‘s candidacy as a presidential hopeful in next October’s elections.
The eldest son of former president Jair Bolsonaro reported hours earlier that he was unable to formalize his candidacy because he appeared to be affiliated with another political party in the electoral authority’s computer system.
Bolsonaro’s lawyers took the case to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), which intervened quickly to restore his affiliation with the Liberal Party (PL), which will allow him to register his candidacy, for which he has until next Saturday.
Flávio Bolsonaro described the event of his affiliation with another party as a “fraud” and cast suspicion on the actions of the electoral authorities.

The “fraudulent” application
Upon learning of the case, the TSE stated in a press release that Flávio’s affiliation with the Misión party, a small right-wing group, was requested by “someone who had the party’s credentials to formalize affiliations”.

Misión, whose presidential candidate is the agitator Renan Santos, said that on August 2nd it informed Bolsonaro’s cabinet, when it detected the “fraudulent” attempt to request its affiliation to the party.
The campaign for the presidential, legislative, and regional elections in October officially kicks off on Sunday in Brazil.
In the presidential race, the current president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, starts with an advantage in the polls over Flávio Bolsonaro, the main opposition candidate and anointed by his father as his political heir.
