Barahona.– Agents of the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), in coordination with the Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense (J-2), arrested two Dominican citizens who were allegedly transporting 11 Haitian nationals in an irregular migratory status aboard a bus on the Pedernales–Santo Domingo route.
According to the preliminary report, the foreigners were eight men, two women, and a girl, who were intercepted during an operation carried out at a checkpoint of the Enriquillo Joint and Interagency Task Force, in the Barahona province.
During the intervention, the authorities seized RD$13,000 in cash from the bus driver. According to initial investigations, the Haitian citizens stated that they had paid that amount for the transport to Santo Domingo.

The DGM reported that the bus was seized as part of the investigative process and that the two Dominicans will be placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry to be brought to justice for their alleged link to the illicit trafficking of migrants.

Meanwhile, the 11 Haitian citizens will be transferred to the Jimaní migration control post, where they will be processed in accordance with established protocols and subsequently repatriated to their country of origin.
The authorities indicated that they continue to reinforce migration control operations and actions aimed at combating networks dedicated to the illicit trafficking of people in the border area.
