U.S. designates Sudan’s Muslim Brotherhood as terrorists
Washington.- The United States government designated the Muslim Brotherhood faction in Sudan as a terrorist organization this Monday, accused of hindering the resolution of the conflict in that African country and maintaining close ties with the Revolutionary Guard and the Iranian government.
“Today, the State Department designated the Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist and plans to designate the group as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, effective March 16, 2026,” the US agency said in a statement.
The decision comes after Washington designated the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon as terrorists, and amid the war launched by the U.S. and Israel against the Islamic Republic, in which Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, hundreds of people, and at least seven U.S. military personnel have already died.

The Muslim Brotherhood of Sudan
According to the State Department, Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood members exert “unrestricted violence against civilians to undermine efforts to resolve the conflict in Sudan and promote their violent Islamist ideology.” It also blames that faction for carrying out “mass executions of civilians” and receiving training and support from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, which Washington accuses of financing and directing “malign activities on a global scale” as the “main state sponsor of terrorism in the world.” “The United States will use all available tools to deprive the Iranian regime and factions of the Muslim Brotherhood of the resources needed to engage in acts of terrorism or support such activities,” the statement concludes. What does the sanction imply?
The designation implies the blocking of all assets and interests of the sanctioned persons located in the United States, as well as the prohibition of U.S. citizens from doing business with them. You can also read:Pakistan bombed seven terrorist camps on the border with Afghanistan and tensions rise with the Taliban regime
The sanctions against these branches of the Muslim Brotherhood came after US President Donald Trump signed a decree in November ordering his government to classify that movement as terrorist for its links to the Islamist group Hamas, considered a terrorist organization by Washington. The al-Baraa Bin Malik Brigade of the Muslim Brotherhood in Sudan was designated by the U.S. last September for its role in the war in the African nation.#Most read
