Santo Domingo.– Venezuelan leader and activist Klever Correa called on President Luis Abinader to facilitate the necessary logistics to allow the humanitarian aid being collected by Venezuelan and Dominican citizens in the Dominican Republic to be transported to Venezuela to assist the victims of the recent earthquakes.

Correa thanked the Dominican Government for its rapid response to the emergency, highlighting that the country was one of the first to provide support to Venezuela.

“First, we want to thank the Dominican Government for all the support they have given us. It was one of the first countries to speak out and send not only humanitarian aid, but also trained people to help us in the rescue,” he expressed.

The activist pointed out that, in addition to the rescue teams sent by the Government, a shipment of 10,000 pounds of humanitarian aid has already departed, but assured that the Venezuelan community residing in the Dominican Republic seeks to expand that effort through a campaign to collect supplies.

“Many organized Venezuelans here want to have their own collection center. We have the volunteer workforce; there are many people willing to receive, organize, and sort the donations. We are not asking for money, we are asking for logistical support so that those supplies reach Venezuela,” he stated.

Correa explained that the goal is to collect an amount of aid greater than the 10,000 pounds already sent and for the Dominican government to provide a plane to transport the essential items.

“We want to collect, hopefully more than 10,000 pounds between Venezuelans and Dominicans who want to support and send them to Venezuela on a plane similar to the one that left today,” he stated.

The leader indicated that there are already organized teams in Venezuela that will receive the aid and will be in charge of distributing it directly to hospitals, health centers, and through the Red Cross, ensuring that it reaches the people most affected by the tragedy.

Likewise, he explained that, unlike neighboring countries such as Colombia and Brazil, where donations can enter by land, from the Dominican Republic air transport represents the fastest and most efficient alternative to deliver aid.

Correa assured that, although he belongs to the CON Venezuela organization, a coalition that brings together opposition parties led by María Corina Machado, in this initiative they have set aside political differences to focus exclusively on humanitarian aid.

“We take off our political shirts and we want to help. We are all here as equals,” he emphasized.
