“Young man wounded by gunfire while handling an illegal weapon in Puerto Plata”

Puerto Plata. A 21-year-old man was arrested by agents of the National Police after being wounded by a gunshot while allegedly handling a pistol he was carrying without authorization in an imprudent manner in the El Javillar sector of this province.

The injured man was identified as Alberson Jordan Acosta, a resident of the municipality of Los Alcarrizos, Santo Domingo, who arrived at the Ricardo Limardo Provincial Hospital with a gunshot wound to one of the fingers on his right hand.

According to preliminary investigations, the young man tried to make the authorities believe that he had been the victim of an assault in which alleged strangers had stripped him of a motorcycle. However, the inquiries carried out by members of the Homicide Division and agents of the Central Directorate of Investigation (DICRIM) determined that the wound was the result of an accidental gunshot caused by himself.

The authorities established that the weapon involved was a 9-millimeter caliber pistol that was inside a backpack carried by the detainee. During follow-up operations, the agents recovered two firearms hidden in a backpack located on the roof of a house in the aforementioned sector.

According to the police report, one of the pistols had been handed over to the young man for commercialization purposes by a person identified only as “Wandy.” Both the seized weapons and the detainee were placed under the control of the Public Ministry for the corresponding legal procedures.

The National Police reported that it continues to deepen investigations to determine the origin of the weapons and establish possible additional responsibilities in the case.
