San Cristóbal.– The urban singer Elvis Manuel Santos Alcántara, known as Onguito Wa, must appear before judicial authorities on the 29th of each month for the next six months, as part of the coercive measures imposed on him by a San Cristóbal court after being accused of illegal possession of a firearm.
Substitute Judge Chadalis E. Rosario Melenciano, of the Third Instruction Court and the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention, also imposed a financial guarantee of RD$200,000 through a contract and prohibited him from leaving the country while the judicial process is underway.
The artist was arrested last June 21 during a National Police patrol on the Sánchez Vieja highway, in San Cristóbal. According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, at the time of the arrest, a 9-millimeter Glock pistol with a 17-round magazine was seized from him, for which he allegedly did not possess the corresponding documentation.

Although the Prosecutor’s Office requested three months of pretrial detention, the court partially granted the request and ordered non-custodial coercive measures. In addition, it granted the Public Prosecutor’s Office a period of six months to conclude the investigation and present the formal indictment.
During the hearing, the prosecution body recalled that Santos Alcántara has a prior conviction for violations of Law 63-17 on Mobility, Land Transportation, Traffic, and Road Safety, a record that was incorporated into the case file.
