54 orphaned children and teenagers due to Jet Set tragedy will attend summer camp

SANTO DOMINGO.- A total of 54 children and adolescents who were orphaned after the tragedy at the Jet Set entertainment center will participate in a summer camp in Don Honorio, National District, where they will receive training in various disciplines. The initiative is driven by the National Council of Unity for Children (CONNUIAD), in coordination with the Supérate program and the National Council for Children and Adolescents (CONANI), which have been following up on the minors affected by the unfortunate event.

During a press conference, the main table was integrated by Gloria Reyes, general director of Supérate; Sandra Castillo, president of CONNUIAD; Violeta Quezada, deputy director of Gender and Development of Supérate; Antonella Sussy, president of the Visionando Foundation of Rome, Italy; and Germán Agudelo, president of the Santo Domingo Rotary Club. The camp will last for seven days at the CONANI facilities in Don Honorio, and will feature recreational activities, artistic and sports activities, as well as psychological therapies. A specialized team of psychologists, nurses and doctors will accompany the participants, along with 40 substitute mothers previously trained to provide them with care and emotional support. Sandra Castillo reported that the children will be granted scholarships by the Montessori Sonrisa Creativa School until sixth grade, and will subsequently continue their high school studies in other educational centers through scholarships managed by the institution. Likewise, Visionando recognized the effort of the authorities and entities that have been present to guarantee the well-being of the minors. The camp program includes music workshops, painting, dance, public speaking, environmental activities, cultural walks, and film screenings, with the aim of providing them with an enriching experience and moments of joy in the midst of their emotional recovery process.
