Santo Domingo.- A Haitian man died and a Dominican military man was injured in an incident still to be clarified near the border wall that Dominican Republic is building, the National Police reported this Wednesday.

According to the police spokesperson, preliminary information available to the Dominican authorities indicates that the incident involved soldiers from the Specialized Corps of Terrestrial Border Security (Cesfront) and a group of Haitians who were in the area. The injured military man is Private Luis Ángel Ferreira Medina, who is admitted to a health center, according to the brief official information. Pesqueira pointed out that the National Police is awaiting an official report from the Armed Forces. Dominican Republic raises an intelligent wall or fence in a part of the border with Haiti, which extends for almost 400 kilometers. The main municipality of the Independencia province is Jimaní, which connects to Port-au-Prince, but the passage to Haitian territory has been closed for months due to the security crisis prevailing in the neighboring country.
