A Haitian dies and three are injured while trying to evade a Migration operation in Santiago

Santiago.- A Haitian national in irregular migratory status died during the early hours of this Monday, after falling from a fourth floor and three were seriously injured when they were trying to evade an operation carried out by Migration agents on 7th street of Ensanche Espaillat in Santiago.

According to preliminary information, the foreigner, whose identity could not be confirmed due to lack of documents, attempted to escape upon noticing the presence of members of the General Directorate of Migration and jumped from one building to another, but did not achieve his goal and fell to the pavement.

Agents from the Central Investigation Directorate (Dicrim) of the National Police arrived at the scene to conduct the corresponding investigations.

The body of the deceased remained on the pavement awaiting the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF).

In recent months, the Dominican Government has increased deportations, and according to the data, 153,144 undocumented Haitians were deported in the first five months of 2025, figures that mark a “sustained growth” compared to other years.
