Santiago.– The driver leader Gervasio de la Rosa described as an outrage the raids carried out by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) and the Center for Control of Fuels and Hazardous Materials (Ceccom), following accusations of alleged illegal storage of diesel. De la Rosa denounced that he was assaulted by government officials and military personnel during the operation.

“We have 50 years in the union movement and 20 years in distribution. It’s the first time that officials and military personnel have entered, breaking doors, locks, and they systematically beat us. They took me away in handcuffs and did what they wanted,” declared De la Rosa. The union leader assured that the fuel supply is carried out within the framework of an agreement with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, the National Institute of Transit and Terrestrial Transportation (Intrant), and its supplier Petromovil. Said agreement contemplates the allocation of fuel to the federations that group about 6,000 drivers of urban and interurban transport in Santiago and other areas of the Cibao. Among the benefited routes are Santiago–Puerto Plata, truck drivers’ unions, Las Charcas, Jánico, buses from 27 de Febrero, Navarrete, Tamboril, Licey, Villa González, Moca and La Vega. For his part, the lawyer in the case, Pantaleón Mieses, asked the authorities to respect due process and guarantee the rights of those involved.
